Pre Test Instructions
- We cannot test you if your ear canals are blocked with earwax. Please have your doctor check your ears and clear ANY wax prior to your appointment with us.
- Certain medications may change the findings of the vestibular (inner ear) studies; therefore, we ask that you not take any non-essential medication for a period of 24 hours prior to the appointment time, and that you particularly avoid:
• Anti-dizzy pills (such as Antivert, Meclizine, Scopolamine, Phenergan) Vergo16 or Betahistine dihydrochloride are okay and you don’t need to suspend this
• Sleeping pills
• Tranquilizers (such as Valium, Ativan, Xanax, Klonapin)
• Alcoholic beverages
• Narcotics of any kind
- Continue to take insulin, heart, cholesterol, blood pressure, acid reflux and thyroid medications.
- Please do not eat for a period of 3 hours before the time of your test. If you are a diabetic and must eat, confine yourself to light, simple foods such as toast and yoghurt that are consumed as early before testing as possible.
- Please do not apply make-up (especially eyeliner and mascara) if you are scheduled for VNG/ENG exam. These can interfere with video recordings.
- Dress comfortably is loose fitting slacks and in shoes with flat heels for your comfort.
- Please plan to have someone drive you home. If this is not possible, plan to stay in our office for at least 30 minutes after the end of your appointment to assure that you will be able to drive safely.
- Depending on what you are scheduled for, appointments can take up to 3 hours. There is a cafeteria and a small food hall in the University. We can give you a break to eat in between tests.
